I love re-discovering old pictures of mine. Photography is something that I've always loved, ever since I visited my godmother's darkroom and watched my pinhole contraption turn into an image right in front of my eyes. However, I never thought that I would be able to earn a living with it but here I am, living in Rio de Janeiro and managing to pay my bills.
And like a professional surfer who remembers when he was rocking dawn patrol with his bros just for fun, not worrying about sponsors and points and training - or the musician who finds himself playing show after show, composing advertising jingles, maybe even an occasional wedding, remembering those late night serenades to all those ladies in college - I remember what it was like picking up a camera and just taking a picture of something because I thought it was cool... didn't have to sell anything, didn't need an image bank, a sky bank...
Travel pictures were always my favorites because it's true freedom. After all, you're on vacation, right? So today while I was rooting through my archives I found some old pictures from a vacation I took to Angra dos Reis, back in the day when I had just moved to Brazil.
Ana has a friend who is a designer and was doing a job making the brochure a yacht chartering company. Actually this is the same girl who is doing our site currently. At any rate, she asked us if we wanted to come along and help with the production, model a little bit, and just have a fun time going to Angra in a plush yacht. Of course we took some great pictures and some were even used in the brochure.
I even got to go on another boat so that we could pull alongside the yacht and get a shot of it with the sails full and running. Here are the salty dogs from the other boat, drinking and driving.
Here's another one of the yacht at full sail.
